In most cities and town nowadays they will have their own local library. Some libraries will be better than others, but that's to be expected with some having a bigger budget than other.

But all of these libraries have one thing in common and that is that they will have a range of books in each sections for all types of readers.

Some of the more common sections in the library which we all remember seeing are the:

1) Children's section

2) Fiction section ( alphabetised)

3) Biography section

4) Language section

5) History section

6) Education section

7) and then they will have other areas which have books on everything from gardening to DIY to learning how to take photographs.

Benefits of being a library member

The are many reasons why we join the library. These are some of the more common ones.

1) You have a wider range of reading material which you don't have to pay to access

2) You get the chance to read newly published books that has just hit the shops.

3) You can save a lot of money by not having to buy the books yourself if the library already have a copy in stock.

4) You also save space in your own home by not having to store the books, plus you save time on not having to clean they shelves they are stored in.

Other library member beneifts

But not only do libraries just have books, they now have things like:

1) Television box set Dvd's

2) Language Dvd's

3) Film Dvd's

So if you missed your favourite television series, instead of going out to a shop and buying it or waiting for it to be rerun on the television, you can drop over to your nearest library and see if they have it in stock.

Further more most libraries now have computers and printers, so anyone who is a member can come in for a specific time period and access the computers.

So college students can come in to do research, others who don't have their own computer can come in to send emails to friends or family living abroad.

Or even if your own computer is broke and won't be fixed for a few days you can access the one in the library to help you with your work.

If you are a library member you get free access to the computers. If you had to use a Internet-Cafe every time you needed to use a computer you could end up paying out a fortune.

Becoming a member

So if you decide you want to join the library you will need to bring proof of identification with you. You will be asked to complete a registration form. These are a list of some of the things you might be asked to present to the librarian.

1) Student card

2) Some type of identification card like a driving licence or passport

3) Proof of Address

4) Registration Fee

Once all this is completed, you will be issued with a library card. You are now an official member and you can take out again depending on the library 4-8 books at a time for a two or three week period.

Conclusion

So if you haven't joined the library yet, why not pop into your local one the next time your passing and see what it has to offer you.
