Learn spanish for your holidays

Most young people today learn a foreign language in high school. However if you don't keep using that language on a regular basis, you will loose it gradually and one day you won't remember much but a few words.
Today most companies like their employees to be able to speak at least one foreign language and in many jobs today having that little bit extra like been able to speak another language could give you the edge. Also most universities today offer students a chance to do a course with a language.
You might be surprised to learn that learning Spanish isn't that hard. With a little patience and a bit of practise you will be able to communicate with some confidence using the Spanish language. Plus wouldn't it be great to be able to travel to Spain and order a drink or buy a new outfit. With a few simple phrases, you just might be able to achieve this.
There are so many different ways nowadays which you can choose to learn Spanish. When choosing the type of format you need to consider is it the right one for you.
Different Ways To Learn
1. CD's are a handy way to learn Spanish. You simple pop them in the player at home or in the car while driving. This format might be more suited to a person whose jobs required them to drive for a living. .
2. If you aren't the type of person to sit down and listen to something for 30 minutes or an hour then CD's might not work for you. Maybe you should try audio books, these come in a player with the audio book pre-installed, this format would suit you when your are walking around, travelling by bus or even doing the housework.
3. If you have free time in the evening maybe look around and see if there in any Spanish classes in your local area. Nowadays a lot of school and colleges run night courses and they will advertise in the local paper or put flyer's up around the locality. These classes usually are no more than an hour or two and sometimes learning in a classroom with a teacher on hand might work better for some people.
Chosing a format to learn Spanish
4. Another option is looking on the Internet for pen pal sites which offer a language exchange program. You would simple join this pen pal site and simple state when filling out your profile what nationalities you are interested in hearing from. This is a great way to learn and practise a language with a real person from that country.
5. One other option which I am still using is You Tube. I use Professor Jason which I have to say is pretty good. The bonus is he is also qualified, so you know you are getting advice from a professional. The other site on You Tube I like to use is Mawuood Academy. They do different languages so once you get on there you might need to look around. The lady who teaches here is a Spanish native which obviously means she is a professional in her own way. Plus the benefit with You Tube is you are under no pressure to learn. You learn at your own pace. Motivation is the key here.
Type of formats explained
If you decide to learn using CD's or audio book, you will start learning in stages. They do not want to overpower you with so much information in the beginning. You will learn easy Spanish phrase in the beginning like how to say " hello sir" or " hello madam". Then as you go up in stages they will get more in depth and you will learn how to hold an actually Spanish conversation.
You will see that in no time at all you will be picking up phrases and remembering sentences without thinking. Plus at the end of each stage, a recap is done on what you have learned in the previous stage. This is a great exercise as you are repeating everything back again at the end of each stage.
When you join a class you are getting more individual attention. You will have a teacher there who will correct you if you are wrong, will give you exercises to do so you practise what you are learning at each stage. Also in this situation you are learning to read and write Spanish which you aren't in the CD or Audio book situation.
If you join a pen pal website and practise with a person who actually lives in Spain, you will be getting first hand knowledge and experience from a resident and this would be good for anyone who planned to visit Spain in the near future.
Conclusion
Spanish is a great and fun language to learn. Even if you don't plan on going to Spain, it's always great to learn a new language.
The one thing I will say about Spanish is it is all about the pronunciation. At times it can seem difficult to try and pronounce the words. For instance if you listen to the Spanish alphabet certain letters like g, h, j, v, w, x and y have a totally different sounds. All the other letters are pretty much easier to say. So when you have words beginning with these letters you have a different pronunciation. If you check out this video you will see what I mean.
The other thing which can be difficult with Spanish is past, present and future tense. But again, you would need to sit down and look at this to try and get a better understanding on it. However if you are just looking to learn a few phrase or conversation pieces for going on holidays then I wouldn't worry to much about that.

I agree with the statement that you can easily lose the language. I did learn how to speak french in high school. Today I'm not even able to hold a conversation. I just retained a few isolated statements. I need to go back the basics and revive it. Maybe learning Spanish would bring it back. Thanks for reminding me.
love it!!! Spanish is my first language, so is you have doubts or want to practice, I be more than happy to do it!!! Que tengas un feliz fin de semana!!! Gracias!!!

As you mentioned, it is easy to forget a language if you don't use it. If you know some one that speaks the language you are learning, use every opportunity possible to speak with them in that language. The real-life interaction is a great way to practice and gain confidence.
